Self-Locking Spacer / Spacer Damper

The ZTT self-locking spacer replaces the traditional latch-type clamp with a quick self-locking mechanism. In ZTT's comparative test the traditional latch type takes 1:20 minutes per clamp to install versus 0:40 minutes for the quick self-locking type — saving over 50% of installation time. Unlike traditional latches, the self-locking clamps do not fall off in service, so the spacer is effectively maintenance-free and cannot fray the conductor. The forged aluminium-alloy eight-bundle spacer damper (developed 2021) is a member of the same family.

Self-Locking Spacer / Spacer Damper — ZTT power infrastructure fitting

Features & Characteristics

  • Quick self-locking clamp — over 50% installation time saved (0:40 min vs 1:20 min per clamp in ZTT test).
  • Dual defensive function — clamps do not fall off in service, avoiding conductor fraying.
  • Maintenance-free operation over the life of the line.
  • Applicable to single, twin, quad and up to eight-bundle conductors (forged aluminium-alloy eight-bundle spacer damper, 2021).

Applications

  • Bundle-conductor overhead transmission lines from HV to UHV.
  • Long-span river crossings and UHV DC lines where maintenance access is difficult.
  • Refurbishment of existing lines suffering from latch fall-off failures.
